AFL is the way of assessing the pupil while the pupil
is still occupied in the learning process. It is also known as formative
assessment, which is opposition to the summative assessment. As the term implies
summative assessment is the assessment that sums up the learner’s achievement.

Summative assessment is very important when we think about qualifications,
exams and so on. The important element to AFL is that it enables the pupil to obtain
the feedback while they are still involved in the learning process. During the
learning when any misconception or an error occurs then it can be addressed by
the pupil before they sit for summative assessment. AFL therefore AFL gives
them better chance of attainment and it allows them improve their potential.
